Just as conflict is ever-present in Midworld, Priests of Battle believe that war is eternal in all realms, be it good against evil, order against chaos, Gods against demons or Mortals against Spirits. Many faiths mark the beginning of the world with cosmic or deific warfare and almost all religions believe the end will arrive similarly.
While the Sphere of Battle concerns itself with War and Conflict, those who wield its combative powers are free to use it according to religious dogma and divine mandate. There are those who use this Sphere to wage war upon the wicked, the sinful and the horrific. Some Priests seek the power of this Sphere to plunge the world in unending slaughter.
To whichever end a Battle Priest decides, the Sphere of Battle grants a Priest combative spells to use at their whim. These spells bring strength to one's congregation, taunt foemen into melee and scourge unbelievers with divine power. The greatest of these spells imbues a Chosen with the essence of a War God, allowing them to invoke this holy energy and devastate heretics and heathens alike.
BATTLE RITUALS
If a spell in this list requires a ritual, you may use the suggestions listed below.
Battle Rituals are almost always ceremonies where the Priests prepare their Chosen for combat. Most faiths feature a ceremony where everyone is clad in full battle-regalia and presents their weaponry for inspection. This is often accompanied by the Priest blessing each and every participant for battle.
More primal or savage faiths may involve the placement of war-paint or blood, the chanting of war-songs and the Priest ceremonially striking each participant to prepare them for combat.
Rituals of more organized or polished faiths are usually more complicated, yet still visceral. These may feature fiery sermons where tales of holy victory are relived or where the Priest extorts his faith's superiority above others to the congregation (who agrees to each passionate statement). This may include formation and positioning as well as a raising of weaponry when the Priest passes through them.
For exceptionally long rituals, some Priests may decide to make a blood sacrifice to their god, ordering ritual participants into a duel or even outright melee, sacrificing blood and pain to the divine.
Short Incantation (used by most Battle Spells): "By Faith's Might, I invoke..."
Long Incantation (used by Rituals and Erudite Spells): "By the Might and Power of Faith, I invoke..."
