The Sphere of Fate concerns itself with the doom of the living and the end of all things. Gods who grant the power of Fate to their Chosen are typically Deities of Death, of Undeath, of Final Repose, of Judgment or of Annihilation. They are the watchers over the dead, the weavers of destiny, the choosers of the slain and the bringers of the end.

The Priests of such Gods hold similar roles, according to the beliefs of their religion and the dogmas of their faith. Some are students of Fate, observers of dooms and endings. Some Fate Priests are assassins and death-dealers - bringing their targets to their ends. There are those Priests who revel in Death and Fates, chaotic and destructive in their duties. And then there are the doom-guides, those who seek to preserve the balance of life by bringing death to those that need it. Each Priest has different goals and different objectives, but all can access the terrifying power of the Fate Sphere.

Just as the deities of Fate and Death are terrible to behold, Fate Spells invoke the deathly and horrific aspects of divinity, inflicting enemies with withering energies or smiting them with holy terror. Beneficial Fate Spells grant otherworldly endurance to their subjects or even powers over the realms of death. The greatest of Fate spells imbues the essence of a Death God into its subject, transforming the target into a force of life and death, meting out judgment as a deity of Fate should.

FATE RITUALS

If a spell in this list requires a ritual, you may use the suggestions listed below.

Fate Rituals resemble funereal rites and often have similar purposes to them:

-          honoring the Dead

-          Reminding the living of what awaits them in the afterlife

-          offering a Sacrifice to the Gods of Death

-          preparing bodies and/or souls for the embrace of Death

Many Fate Rituals feature the Ritualist chanting requiems or dirges about the dead and the damned. Some tell the tales of heroes or villains that have fallen and serve to remind the living of the Gods' mercy and cruelty. Others speak of those who have passed and of the lessons they can teach to those that still remain.

Primal or savage cultures feature rituals that have blood sacrifice or a similar ritualistic offering to the God of Death, oftentimes taken from the ritual participants by the primary Caster. These sacrifices serve to appease the Gods and remind Chosen of what lies beyond this world. Sometimes participants play the roles of the deceased, dressed in funereal attire or simply lying prone as the Caster performs the ritual or takes the offerings from them. Other times, the roles they play are as guardians of the dead, standing solemnly as the Ritualist carries the offering to an altar or a shrine.

More civilized societies typically feature somber ceremonies where the Priests anoint followers with wardings against Fate and have sermons against Sin and Wickedness. Some cultures, such as the Gotterdammerung allow Necromancers to participate in their rituals, summoning the dead with reverence and respect. More extravagant religions such as those of the Silver Elves of the Callasine, feature masks, robes and other garments that the ritual participants must don to play the roles of fallen souls or guardian angels.

And then, there are those macabre rituals of Fate which take place with the slow dying of a Chosen or a captive. Practiced by more reclusive cults, creeds and orders, such rituals feature the ritualists performing ceremonies (e.g. chanting, sermons, ritual torture) over the dying victim. More often than not, such victims are unwilling participants although religions that promote suicidal zealotry among their ranks just as likely to have enthusiastic Chosen in sacrificial roles.

Short Incantation (used by most Fate Spells): "By Faith's Mercy, I invoke..."

Long Incantation (used by Rituals and Erudite Spells): "By the Mercy and Cruelty of Faith, I invoke..."
