SKILL OVERVIEW:

Researcher

With this skill, you do not need a teacher to learn basic skills, feats or spells - expending a resource unique to Scholars called Research Points (ResP)in lieu of finding and training beneath a teacher (learning skills/feats/spells still requires the expenditure of build points). Solitary learning such as this requires a Researcher to expand his mind by expending his energies and time in the accumulation and the propagation of knowledge. You are also considered to have the Teach skill.
Once per period, a character with this skill may declare a research effort regarding a point of lore that interests him, submitting a query to logistics. This can be the weakness of a particular monster or the location of an important artifact or even the location of a specific formula. If the query's answer is momentarily inaccessible or unattainable, this function of the skill is not considered expended. The answer to a Research effort can be available next period or next month, depending on the significance/obscurity of the answer.
-Expert Researcher:  You do not need a teacher to learn complex skills, feats or spells.
-Master Researcher: You may learn 2 skills/feats/spells instead of one every event. Basic Skills/Feats/Spells now only cost 20 ResP to learn while Complex Skills/Feats/Spells now only cost 40 ResP.
Requires: Athenaeum

Gaining Research Points:
Research Points are the bread and butter of the Wisdom (Scholar) Profession, enabling the Scholar to learn skills/feats/spells without the aid of a teacher.
  • Scribe Glyphic Ciphers - at the end of an event, a Scholar is awarded a number of ResP equal to the used Glyphic Ciphers of his creation that is found by logistics with his sheet or on the character sheets of others. Unused Glyphic Ciphers do not grant ResP.
  • Teach - When you teach someone a skill/feat/spell that you know, annotate this task upon your sheet or on an index card that comes with your sheet. You will be awarded 5 ResP for teaching a Basic feat/spell/skill and 10 ResP for teaching a Complex feat/spell/skill
  • Scribe a Wyrdic Cipher: Wyrdic Ciphers with your mark are worth 5 ResP after the game.
  • Scribe a Runic Cipher: Runic Ciphers with your mark are worth 5 ResP for basic spells, 10 ResP for complex spells and 15 ResP for erudite spells.
Using Research Points
Research Points are used at the end of the event - the Scholar annotates the bottom of his character sheet with the skill/spell/feat he wants to learn and the ResP cost for it.
Basic Spells/Skills/Feats: 25
Complex Spells/Skills/Feats: 50

Analyze Item
With this skill, you can determine the abilities of an unknown magic item. It takes 5 minutes of analysis to perform this skill.
Special: Athenaeum

Deconstruct Item
Requires: Analyze Item, Scribe Runic Cipher
With this skill, you can carefully destroy an item of power/magic item and attempt to determine its component parts and formula.
Special: A Transmuter is the best at retaining the most possible components during the item’s destruction.

Lore-keeper
With this skill, you are able to read to all Lore cards except for Urban Lore and Forbidden Lore.

When fighting an unknown monster, you may invoke “Lore-keeper! What are you?” to find out the name of whatever you are fighting. You get no other information, although further research in the subject can provide you with information.

Natural Scrivener
Using your Scholar skills do not count as strenuous activity. This means that you can be counted as resting while performing these skills.

Omni-Linguist
With this skill, you are able to understand and speak in all languages except for the Forbidden tongues.

Scribe Glyphic Cipher
With this skill, you can write in the Glyphic-cipher, a restricted and calligraphic written language. With this ability, you can create spell-scripts, a mystic mark set on paper that allows spell-casters to imbue their allies with beneficial magic. Glyphic Cipher needs only some paper and a quill – no components are usually required although it may happen on occasion. Place your mark on the Glyphic Ciphers you create.

The information required on the Glyphic Cipher are the following:

  • The Spell's Name (Topmost left)
  • The Spell's Effect (Second entry; make sure to list all the parameters of the effect)
  • The Name of the Spell's Caster (arrow) the True Name of the Spell's Target (Bottom left; put Self as Target or leave blank on certain spells) (ex: Jorgen Blightcaller ---> Selrick the Damned)
  • Month/Period it was cast (bottom right) (ex: Dec/P1 or Nov/P3)
  • The CSN of the Glyph's creator (top right)

Seventh Kingdom encourages its Scholars to have ornamented and distinctive Glyphic Ciphers. 3x5 Index cards are the usual fare bigger index cards may be used for spells with longer effects. Similarly, appropriately sized cut parchment will look better than Index cards. Seventh Kingdom advises its Scholars to create Glyphic Ciphers ahead of time, between events as necessary.

Phys Rep: Index Card, pen

Special: Athenaeum or Ark-Stone

Scribe Runic Cipher
With this skill, you can place a spell upon a scroll. This requires a component, dependent on the kind of spell. Spells that naturally have a component add that component to the cost of creating the scroll. You must know the spell in question, or else have someone who does accompany you during the entirety while you are creating the scroll – which is a 10 minute process. If you have this skill, you are counted as having the Runic Literacy skill. Place your mark and the date of creation upon a Cipher of your creation.
-Scribe Basic Rune: You can scribe a Basic Spell into a Runic Cipher.

Requires basic elemental component.

-Scribe Complex Rune: You can scribe a complex spell into a Runic Cipher.

Requires 1 rare elemental component and the Expert Researcher skill.

-Scribe Erudite Rune: You can scribe an erudite spell into a Runic Cipher.

This Requires 1 pure (or 3 rare) and the Master Researcher Skill.
Phys Rep: Scroll Paper. Scroll Roll Phys rep with roller.
Special: Athenaeum

Component requirements for spells

  •  Priest Spells - All Runic Ciphers require Holy Components. Divine (specific element) Components can be utilized instead for Spells that inflict Divine Damage.
  • Witch Spells -Fury Spells (Fire), Locus Spells (Metal/Earth), Maia Spells (Water, Holy), Muse Spells(Lightning, Wind), Wisp Spells (Shadow, Wind)
  • Sorcerer Spells - Diablerie (Demonic/Fire), Necromancy (Death), Shadow-binding (Shadow), Discipline (Demonic/Death/Shadow)

Using a Scroll: Using a Rune-Cipher requires the presentation of the scroll and a channel 10, regardless of whether the spell previously required it or not. Ritual spells become ritual 10 spells. After the requisite casting time, the spell can be cast and the scroll dissipates – destroy the Runic Cipher.
Who can use a Scroll: You can cast the spell bound within a Rune-Cipher if you are innately capable of casting the spell without a scroll - that is, if the spell exists in your Class' spell list and you are capable of learning it.

Scribe Wyrdic Cipher
You can create copies of formulae. Wyrdic Cipher is a 10 minute process that involves herbals component in its creation. Place your mark and the date of creation on the Wyrdic Ciphers you create.
-Scribe Basic Wyrdic Cipher: You can scribe basic formulae (Requires Basic Herbal Component)
-Scribe Complex Wyrdic Cipher: You can scribe complex formulae (requires Expert Researcher and 3 basic Herbal Components)
-Scribe Erudite Wyrdic Cipher: You can scribe erudite formulae (requires Master Researcher and a Rare Herbal Component)
Special: Athenaeum
