The Black Wave has come to Freehold.
The Black Wave is a swath of necromantic energy that swept through Freehold. Our current specialists have yet to determine a cause or the means in which it travels. What we do know is that it lacks a sentient leadership, it manifests in local graveyards disturbing and defiling the graves of our loved ones, and that the subdued reanimated corpses will regenerate if left unattended. You need to sever the connection between the infected brains and the rest of the body. But doing so, will cause a magical defense to trigger. Releasing the necromantic energy that was previously manipulating the corpse outward in a violent manner to all the unsuspecting victims in the immediate vicinity. We also have many reports of reanimated corpses willingly projecting their essence unassisted.
These zombies have varying strengths. From the simple mindless, slow moving rotted corpses to some that were seen using complex battle maneuvers, and increased agility. Their primary tactic is to injure the legs of their victims, preventing escape. After they have murdered their victim, they feast on their flesh passing on the necromantic energy to the victim causing them to rise up and join the ranks.
Locals are encouraged to cremate the recently deceased.
If you need assistance handling a zombie attack, or are otherwise in a state of peril, Annie's Inn has been home to many an able bodied adventurer.
The Coven wishes to extend a thank you to all who attended and assisted with the Summer's End Celebration.
A special thanks to Lily, Epona, Nayesh, Gerard, and even Sote for their invaluable assistance.
It was a great success. Many words were shared about death and loss, and many visions seen of future and gain.
The consensus of the fortunes gleamed that night told us that right now the nights are a little bit darker.
The winds are a little bit colder. But the hearth that we as a community are kindling will be comparable to mightiest wyvern's deepest breath.
Hopefully, the burst of positive mana released that night will help to repair some of the damage done by the Black Wave.
We will continue to study the impact of the ceremony in the coming months.
